Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of conducting gold room operations including:

identifying and managing hazards correctly

handling hazardous substances correctly

identifying and applying dust suppression and extraction methods

identifying and managing ventilation systems

demonstrates completion of conducting gold room operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

performing start up in sequence on equipment to meet job requirements

operating and monitoring smelting equipment to meet job requirements

reading equipment indicators

adjusting equipment to maintain optimum output

preparing electrowinning products for smelting

shutting down and/or isolating the equipment in sequence

performing routines checks on equipment

maintaining required documentation and records


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following in applying the Conduct gold room operations through:

breakdown procedures

elution process

smelting process

use of fluxes

record keeping

handling requirements for gold concentrates

security requirements for gold processing

emergency procedures

environmental principles

equipment limitations and operating parameters

equipment safety requirements

hazardous substance procedures and consequences of spills

identifying repair requirements

isolation procedures

metallurgical and technical data

OHS procedures

specific operational procedures and checks

pumping systems

sampling

gold room safety requirements

types of ores

the effects of wet and dry concentrates
